Dr. M. Akhter Hossain completed his PhD in 2001 from the Ueno-Mihara Laboratory, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan, and undertook postdoctoral studies in the Dumy Lab (2003-2004), Joseph Fourier University, France. He then joined the Wade Lab (2005-2011), Florey Institute, University of Melbourne (Australia). He is currently the head of “Insulin Peptides Laboratory” at the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health, University of Melbourne, Australia. He was awarded a JSPS early career postdoctoral fellowship (Japan Govt) in 2003 and an NHMRC new investigator project grant (as principal investigator) in 2012. He has published more than 80 papers in key international journals including JACS, PNAS, JMedChem and JBC. He serves as an editorial board member of two journals including Frontiers in Chemical Biology. He currently (co)supervises 4 PhD students and one postdoctoral fellow. His group is interested in developing novel chemical methods for preparing therapeutic insulin and insulin-like peptide-based drug.
